Day 28 – Two days to go.

It’s Sunday – which usually means i get a delicious writing prompt in my in-box from “Draft” which always leas me somewhere delightfully unexplored. But I also need to tackle my long neglected back yard – which is looking somewhat like a intimidating jungle.  However, my main priority today is a certain email that I need to send off … and I’ve been postponing it every way I could.

Following the day of the week prompt’s, Today’s prompt us “Sunday”

Or Son day (Sabbath). Or for some, it’s sin day …

And here is what my contemporaries are also offering this month in regards to poetry writing challenges …

I have uploaded my Pinterest “Ariel’s List” for April if you want to use those.

Want to look up a past prompt?  Maybe one of my past Pinterest “Ariel’s List”?

I’ve made it easy for you. You can find them in my archive on my Poetry Prompts page.

MBM Reading Flyer
Moments Before Midnight Book Launch

Upcoming events – Reading at the Moments Before Midnight sBook Launch tomorrow – i’m ataching a flyer with SAW Poetry flyerthe  details.

Also – And this is important to me – I had talked the Salem Art Walk Committee inot making Aprils Group Show’ theme be Poetry to play into National Poetry Month. So If you live near Salem Oregon – WE NEED Poets & their poetry,

Salem Art Walk Has a Monthly Art Walk on the Last Friday of every month; it has been going strong now for 18 months. It includes a group art show, based on a monthly theme, at Prims Gallery AND THIS TIME AROUND ITIS POETRY! So the committee is looking especially for entries from poets.

Also – if poets want a pop-up location where they can display /sell their CHAP BOOKS, Please see facebook.com/prismsgallery or contact Anna Cottam at acottom@pclpartership.org

I know I should have sent this earlier – but as I have mentioned before, my current disabilities play havoc with my planning & scheduling abilities. So I am <singing> “sending out this SOS to the world” … you being The World.

Pieces will be accepted Wednesday afternoon until Friday for the show to open at 4 pm Friday Apr 27 (I’ll be on hand Friday. Pieces will continue to be shown until the Wednesday before May’s Last Friday. Prism is located in The Reed Underground (basement of Reed Opera House Mall in Salem, by stairs). It is organized by non-profit Partners for Community Living – beginning at first as a gallery for disabled artists but has branched out to include artists of all mediums in the area. I, for one, will be submitting my Write The Town poem displays.

As the theme is Poetry -apr in honor of National Poetry Month – there will also be an OPEN MIC for poets that night  Apr 27. The Art Walk runs from – 8 pm. NOt sure on the details yet for this – that gets finalized at Thursday’s Committee meeting.  Please see facebook.com/prismsgallery or contact Anna Cottam at acottom@pclpartership.org

I’ll have more details after tomorrow’s meetings; my body/brain hasn’t let me attend the past few meet’ns.

Quick “bizness” …Thursday afternoon is my next public reading where I will take the stage along with fellow Moments Before Midnight poets at Western Oregon University. It’s our official launch and Thursday night I will have 5 copies available on my Etsy site for purchase. Please note that all funds from MBM go towards ACLU to ensure the protection of our human rights.  If you don’t make it – I have heard the MBM will be live-streamed or recorded (to be broadcast later).

Hate realizing a post didn’t – well – post.

Day 23  I didn’t get to a post yesterday – what with the Garden Poems reading and other distractions. So consider that day a wild card as far as prompts go.

My next reading will be this Thursday – Moments Before Midnight Continue reading “Apr 23 #AprPAD #NaPoWRiMo”

Day 21  20180422 Poetry in the GardenA Quick reminder – I will be one of 10 poets reading Tomorrow (Earth Day) at Garden Poems at Gaiety Hollow.  Event is 2-4 pm at Salem’s  Gaiety Hollow (across the street from Bush House) and is the Mid Valley Poets Assn’ first Poetry in Performance event for this year.  I’m attaching the flyer with the details.

I’m at a hospital with Fam today. As I mentioned before, I am the medical rep for two of my brothers, so when one is in the hospital, I try to present as much as possible to get the right info from his medical staff. They are terrible at remembering what they need to do!

Today’s prompt is  “representing”

Day 20  I’m glad I pre-announced this on yesterday’s post as It’s another day “down the 20180422 Poetry in the Gardenrabbit-hole” and I’m looking for that tidbit that will make me “big” again …

A Quick reminder – I will be one of 10 poets reading this Sunday (Earth Day) at Garden Poems at Gaiety Hollow.  Event is 2-4 pm at Salem’s  Gaiety Hollow (across the street from Bush House) and is the Mid Valley Poets Assn’ first Poetry in Performance event for this year.  I’m attaching the flyer with the details.

So -Only ten days to go on April’s Poem-A-Day challenge! Let’s get to it!

Today’s prompt is  “write a sestina”

A sestina is a very formal format with 6 stanzas, ending with a seventh stanza called the envoi. The first stanza, with 6 lines (in preferably iambic pentamenter) sets the six end-words for the next five stanzas – with a prescribed order that they appear. And the envoi incorporates all six endwards into its final three lines. You see why I usually write free verse!

You can find how to write a sestina at Poets.org and a more simplified approach here on Wiki-How.

And to keep track of the order of end-words there are a few online generators around, such as Rena’s Sestina End Word Generator or Dilute.net’s Sestin-a-matic.

My first (really rough) draft? I’m not quite happy with it yet, but I think it’s a good start. It should be in iambic pentameter but that’s the next tweak in polishing (and polishing PAD poems takes place during May!) …

Day 17 I have a good reason for being late-ish today. A great reason! I was poeming. That ABC poem from last Friday? – My muse decided what it really should consist of: and I’m mostly blind today so it took a while – and two devices – to type it out.

I’ll share it with you at the end of today’s offering.
