Thursday – And I will be fighting for books today. One of the concerns that have occupied me is that Salem Library has removed more than 900 books from its core collection. More on that later …
Thursday’s prompt is “cafuné”.
With cafuné as our prompt, it is a good day to share one of my Bits of Cyn poems – These were Frequently Asked Questions.
One of the concerns that have occupied me is that Salem Library has removed more than 900 books from its core collection. I am concerned because among the titles put in storage are not only classics, poetry books and writing resources, but also books that explore freedom, cultivate tolerance, teach critical thinking skills and books that seek to understand non-christian religions and culture – knowledge vitally needed in these divisive, uncivil times/
I, along with about 60 other citizens attended the Library Advisory Board meeting at the beginning of January and argued to pause and reverse he nooks removals. It goes o the City council soon. However – since the Board could not tell us why certain books were pulled, Eleanor Berry & I will be meeting early afternoon with the librarian who has been making the determinations. Hopefully, it will give us more info we can use to craft persuasive arguments to present to the City Council.
