Halloween! And when dusk starts forming, I can’t wait for the neighborhood’s celebrants to take to the street!
I’m awake, I’m awake, I’m awake! And my ride is due any moment …
Sorry – still recuperating. Still sleeping a lot. Add in the unreal domestic terrorism of this Trumpian dystopia – and I’m going to need a lot of caffeinated cola to deal with this day.
Steampunk Ball was last night & it has taken some time this morning to recuperate from that.
Sorry for the late posting – yesterday just exhausted me and I went to bed a lil’ earlier than normal. … and slept later than normal. Since then it has been getting ready to head out the door. This evening is Salem’s 2nd Annual Steampunk Ball & I and the other committee members are switching into Defcon 5 in our preparations …
The next few days are going to have to be short & sweet on the prompts. Friday evening is Salem’s Steampunk Ball 2; I have shared before that I am on the planning committee for this event.
Here’a conundrum for those experts on the supernatural …
Let’s go a little whimsical on our spooky theme …
Today is National Apple Day. We say apples are very American – there is apple pie, apple crumble, apple cider, legendary Johnny Appleseed – and one of my favorite love tokens, apple cider donuts. I spent Saturday evening sipping hot apple tea in front of a talkative wood fire.
Nothing to me is a scary & spooky as a spider. And many stories use them to up the fear factor. Tolkein inserts the Spiders of Mirkwood in Hobbit & Shelob in Return of the King. Aragog & his children in Harry Potter. In Doctor Who, itis the arachnoids, (Think I geek much?) Arachnophobia. The early myths of Arachne. Etcetera, etcetera etcetera.
Today’s prompt comes from one of my favorite Halloween movies, and – no – It’s not horror or suspense. But family-friendly “Hocus Pocus”.
I’m sitting, sipping a little Daydreamer tea that fellow poet, TL Cooper gifted me. My laptop, Pixy, is still not charging up – so I have been using the desktop PC, MyLady, that rests on my bedroom desk. The hub of the home’s network, she doesn’t get much keyboard action but she usually is very active multi-tasking despite being quiet – a lot like me. But the past few days we have been spending time together and I forget how cozy it can be to hide out in my purple room. I have a deep plum candle dancing, cushy lil’ cushion for my tushie, a cat purring at the foot of the bed, a fluffy blanket still warm from the dryer. Very safe, very secure …
Okay, let’s go with some urban myths now – a little Freddy Kruger, a bloody hook on a car door, a little Hannibal Lecter …
I want to slip my skin off and slide into eerie imagination.
