Happy Sunday. I am headed out to Jefferson, Oregon for a potluck with the poets of Salem Poetry Project.
Oct 7th’s prompt is “it’s just you and whatever human-lizard hybrid the genetics lab discarded here”.
Until 2 years ago, I tried to keep my poetry career & my personal political lobbying separate. But the political climate has changed for the worse; we are at one of those cross-roads where every citizen must make a conscious decision. And I was given his voice – my poetry. I can not stay silent, I won’t stay on the sidelines.
Yesterday, the conservatives and the Alt-Right put a lying biased and corrupt man – one who committed a sexual assault as a teenager AND has not matured since – onto the Supreme Court. Thereby corrupting the last leg of USA’s federal government. Our current Oval Office resident idolizes the despots of authoritarian 3rd World countries, and not only actively woos them, but assists the GOP party in turning our democracy into Atwood’s fictional Gilead.
So today, in mourning and as a warning, I share my Third World Wymen – a Poem Of Witness originally published in the Through Her Eyes anthology.
