Monday was a 30th anniversary of sorts – I keep circling around it coming closer to being able to give it a voice, a name. … Maybe today’s poem will. Some of my worst moments have happened in December; some of my very best has happened too. This was one – and
even that has become a mourning of sorts. And a celebration – it proves my life was – IS – one worth living. Has moments of glory, even if they don’t last. So I must endure those temporary moments – like December.
But I am also 3 days away from the 8th anniversary of my husband’s passing; when we powered down the weeks-old equipment and let him go. When I moved out of the hospital – and possibly let me go. Damn December. But looking back – even my life with him had moments of glory, of temporary perfection.
I keep looking back today – so I think we will go with Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” for today’s prompt “you had one eye on the mirror“.
Let me tack on those bad-ass lyrics for you to play with … I’m all about the prompts!
Heck … Give in, karaoke this! I am! Even in this bittersweet funk, singing this song fills me with a bad-ass rebellious optimism.
Let me share an anti-vain poem today; Roadside was one of my November Poem-A-Day Challenge creations, based on the prompt “my skin is thinning, my skin is thing. Am I vanishing?”.
